The Insights of a Director. 

Welcome! I’m Lauren Shields, a New York-based director, audition repertoire coach, and actor. Having both the skills of directing and acting has given me the opportunity to experience both sides of the table. I have auditioned thousands of talented people, and experienced many auditions myself. Through the auditioning process I have honed the tips, tricks and techniques of what works best to land you that job, and what details often go overlooked. Each actor is unique, bringing a different quality, perspective and talent to every song, monologue and role. I want to help you find your creative edge so they “can’t say no”!

This idea came to me sitting behind the table in auditions, watching actors bring their best work forward that was often not a true reflection of their talent. I watched wildly talented actor after actor bring in material that was either outdated, missed the mark, or was not the best showcase of their skills. They had the talent, but not the right package — and I wished I had the platform to steer them kindly in a better direction. Audition Checkup is made by casting, for actors — to help take their auditions, brand, and presentation to the next level.

Over the last year, I have created an extensive online database of incredible audition songs and monologues to help you bring your most authentic self to every audition. Starting this project gives me the time to work with individuals who want feedback and new ideas that will help them find what they need to land a role. I am passionate about training and sharing my knowledge of the theatre world, and together we are sure to be an unstoppable team.
